Break Free Conference
How It All Started
Faith Saunders, the founder of Discover A New Future, was introduced to Barbara George Johnson by a mutual friend on August 2014. They met at Panera Bread to get to know each other. Long story short, by the end of their meeting, they made the commitment to each other to facilitate an empowerment conference for women who had limited resources (financial and otherwise) to attend conferences that could uplift and inspire them.
April 2015: The 1st Break Free Conference
The first Break Free Conference was held at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton. Eighty women from various walks of life attended. The conference was funded by in-kind donations. The guest speakers and workshop facilitators were mainly from Trenton and included the Honorable Judge Janetta D. Marbrey from the Vicinage 7 Superior Court in New Jersey, Dr. Ruth Perry, the Executive Director of the Trenton Health Team, and Barbara Johnson, Executive Director for the Center for Health Policy Development at Thomas Edison State College.
The Break Free Conference has been held annually since it began. March 2019, we held our 5th conference. Not only did attendance grow but we expanded to Bergen County AND included High School young ladies - 10th through 12th grade! The new name - The Break Free! Be Free and Soar! Intergenerational Conference!
UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, THE CONFERENCE WAS NOT HELD IN 2020
